The Detroit Lakes Tribune accepts community calendar items for publication online and, space permitting, in our Wednesday and Sunday print editions. Submissions must be made at least a week in advance of the event date, in writing, to either dltribune@dlnewspapers.com or vgerdes@dlnewspapers.com. Each submission must include the date, time and location of event, and where to go for more information (phone, email and/or website). Also include whether the event is free or paid admission, and how much it costs when applicable.

Free Root Beer Floats: Come to Ameriprise Financial Services in Detroit Lakes for a free root beer float, starting at 11 a.m. and continuing while supplies last. All are welcome.

Women Take the Mountain: All area women age 14 and up are invited to come to Detroit Mountain Recreation Area from 5-9 p.m. for a relaxing evening of wine tasting, scenic lift rides, Yoga on the Summit, mini-massages and much more. Trucks and Tunes: The Detroit Lakes Noon Rotary Club is sponsoring an evening of food, fun and live music at the Detroit Lakes City Park, starting at 5 p.m. A variety of food trucks will be gathered in the parking lot until 8 p.m., serving up a host of summer favorites, while over at the bandshell, the JT Kennelly Band will be performing. Admission is free, though the cost of food may vary from truck to truck.

Food Truck Fridays: Hosted by Detroit Lakes Noon Rotary, Food Truck Fridays will take place every Friday through Sept. 2 at Detroit Lakes City Park, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Food trucks on site may change; event will be held rain or shine.

Rotary Peach Sale: The Detroit Lakes Breakfast Rotary is serving up its 23rd Annual Peach Sale, 12-8 p.m. in the Nereson's Automotive parking lot, while supplies last. All proceeds donated to support area community projects.

Young Life Triathlon: The annual Young Life Triathlon takes place at Detroit Lakes' City Park, 6:30 a.m. (registration) to noon (awards presented). To register, or for more information, visit younglifetriathlon.com .

DAV Fundraiser: A fundraiser for the Disabled American Veterans of Becker County will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Meadow Lake Campground (25809 Meadow Lake Road, Detroit Lakes) picnic shelter. Free-will offering lunch, with over 80 basket raffles.

Howie Miller: Comedian Howie Miller performs live at Mahnomen's Shooting Star Casino at 6 p.m. Tickets available at starcasino.com .

Detroit Lakes Craft Beer Tour: The lakes area's only craft beer event returns to Detroit Lakes' Washington Ball Park, with unlimited beverage sampling, prizes, people's choice voting, commemorative swag and more. VIP ticket holders can enter one hour early, at 1 p.m., while the main event runs from 2-5 p.m. Tickets available online at craftbeertours.com .

Shoreham Chapel Music and Worship: Celise Swanson will be performing as part of worship services at Shoreham Chapel in rural Detroit Lakes, starting at 10:45 a.m. All are welcome.

Color Guard Fundraiser Breakfast: The Lake Region Veterans Color Guard will be hosting a breakfast fundraiser from 8 a.m. to noon at the American Legion Club, 810 West Lake Drive, Detroit Lakes. Suggested donation is $8 for a meal including scrambled eggs; pancakes or French toast; sausage or bacon; and coffee or orange juice. Plenty of tables, lots of space. All are welcome.

Outdoor Church Service: Congregational Church UCC of Detroit Lakes will host an outdoor service in celebration of 150 years in the 150-year-old city of Detroit Lakes. The service will take place at 10 a.m. in the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Park, 317 Washington Ave., which was the site of the original Congregational Church. Please bring a lawn chair. In case of rain the service will be at the church (900 Lake Ave.).

Trinity Lutheran Church Open House: Detroit Lakes' Trinity Lutheran Church will celebrate its 125th anniversary with an open house from 1-3 p.m. All are welcome to come enjoy tours of the church, refreshments and fellowship.

North Country Trail Presentation: Author Joan Young, who was the first woman to complete the North Country National Scenic Trail on foot in 2010, will be making a presentation on the trail at the Detroit Lakes Public Library at 7 p.m. Open to the public.

Library Club: Information technology specialist Kent Mollberg will be making a presentation on Internet Safety Awareness to the Detroit Lakes Library Club at 2 p.m. in the library's main meeting room. Refreshments and conversation to follow. Open to the public.

Tuesdays in the Park: Larry Swenson performs live as part of Detroit Lakes' Tuesdays in the Park summer concert series at 7 p.m. under the City Park Bandshell. Picnic hosted by Fuller Center for Housing starts at 5:30 p.m. Seating is limited, so bring your own blankets or chairs. Admission is a free will donation; all proceeds from the picnic benefit Fuller Center's local housing projects, while donations for the concert go to support the artists.

Open Acoustic Jam: Bring your acoustic instruments and go to the Detroit Lakes Public Library for an unplugged jam session, starting at 5 p.m.

Remembering Bobby Vee: A tribute concert in honor of the Minnesota music legend, presented by The Killer Vees (Jeff, Tommy and Matt Vee along with Ar J Stevens and George Maurer), will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Detroit Lakes' Historic Holmes Theatre. Complete with Bobby’s touring string section and cast members from "Teen Idol: The Bobby Vee Story" helping out on background vocals, the show will feature video and stories from Bobby’s career along with all the hits. Macaws for Paws: The Lakes Area Parrot Heads will be raising money for the Marshmallow Animal Shelter with their 9th Annual Macaws for Paws event, 5:30-9 p.m. at Zorbaz in Detroit Lakes. There will be a silent auction, raffle drawing (tickets available at the Marshmallow Animal Shelter or from Parrot Heads and Marshamallow volunteers) and music by Island Time.

Ole's Ride Bike Show: There will be a bike show in conjunction with the 13th Annual Ole's Ride for Hospice, 6:30-8 p.m. in front of Billy's Corner Bar, Vergas. Those planning to participate in the ride can also pre-register at this time.

Ole's Ride: The 13th Annual Ole's Ride for Hospice departs at noon from Billy's Corner Bar in Vergas, with registration from 10-11:30 a.m. A meal, silent auction and live music by The Fat Cats follow the ride through Minnesota lakes country. Cost is $25 per bike, $15 for an additional rider, and includes a T-shirt, meal and chances for door prizes at each stop. Boats and Bars XVI: The Lakes Area Parrot Heads will present their 16th Annual Boats and Bars event, 10 a.m. to midnight at various locations around town, starting and ending at Zorbaz. Other locations include the sandbar between Big and Little Detroit, Lakeside Tavern, Long Bridge, Holiday Inn and Hub 41. Performers include Two Lone Pirates, Island Time, Rachael Ianiro, Motu, The Castaways, Chuck Fox, and Pirates, Guitars and Beachfront Bars. Tickets on sale at Zorbaz or from Parrot Heads members. Wolf Lake Harvest Festival: The community of Wolf Lake will host its 39th Annual Harvest Festival on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 19-20. Events include the Miss Wolf Lake Pageant, silent auction, bean bag toss and triple meat raffle on Friday; and a 5k run/walk, petro/car show, obstacle course, parade, mud run, bean bag tournament and a variety of children's activities, all on Saturday.

Ojibwe Forests Rally: Join the annual August American Rally Association Championship car race on Aug. 19-20. Headquartered at Soo Pass Ranch (home of WE Fest), Detroit Lakes, where you’ll be able to camp out, watch the races on live stream and pick up some merchandise. Saturday Critter Tales: Every Saturday through Sept. 3, join resident volunteer Sandi Wicklund at Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge for some fascinating personal stories about wildlife encounters during her many seasons at refuges throughout the country. Learn about wildlife viewing etiquette and find out the best places to view wildlife at Tamararc. All ages welcome. Meet at 1 p.m. by the Tamarack tree in front of the visitor center for this 45 minute program.

Wild Wednesdays: Every Wednesday through Aug. 31, Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge will be offering two sessions of "Wild Wednesdays," at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Explore the world of Nature with your child during this hour-long adventure for 3-7 year-olds. Library Storytime: The Detroit Lakes Public Library offers weekly storytime sessions every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Preschoolers and their caregivers are invited to join library staff for stories, flannel boards, finger plays, songs and more. This early literacy experience explores a different theme each week and is a way to encourage young children to enjoy reading; sometimes held outdoors during the summer months, weather permitting.
